Her father was the lighthouse keepers and his journals have just been delivered to Elizabeth, having been found in a wrecked ship. I liked the characters (although I wanted to shake most of them), the book flowed well and was well written. The author was able to involve the reader in the surroundings, those being peaceful and melancholy as she slowly developed the story of the twin sisters, Emily and Elizabeth.
And it takes place in Canada!! The Lightkeeper's Daughters is a tender book about sisters' love, family, secrets, and lighthouse keeping on the Porphyry Island on Lake Superior.

Takes place in Canada to the north of Lake Superior, an area I know nothing about, so it was pleasant to learn something new about the setting and the people of that area. The man insists she is not who she thinks she is, but rathe I thought I was buying another book. The story takes place now and in the past on Prophyry Island on Lake Superior in Canada where her father manned a lighthouse, where Elizabeth was born in 1925. It’s vibrant, atmospheric ( and how!) I love books with dual storylines.

Much of the story is told by Morgan, a girl who is struggling to find her place, reading diary entries to an elderly woman in a nursing home, Elizabeth.

I chose this book for our book club from the Radio 2 recommendation, their choice has usually been pretty good. ..A storyline full of twists and turns with suspense to have me guessing until the end...history to intrigue me and teach me.....beautiful symbolism throughout ..I just loved it!I wish I had read the back cover first. July 4th 2017 The description of the scenery is breathtaking, the characters feel so real the alive.



But Pendziwol does more than spin a mystery, she creates a multi-layered story where the present confronts tI had the honour of reading an advanced copy of this book and I must say I was captivated by Pendziwol’s beautiful writing the moment I read the first page. Morgan will become herMorgan is a teenage girl, being raised in foster homes after the death of her father.

Running through the whole story is the ever present Lake Superior in all of her moods.



But the landscapes of the lakes change along with the seasons.If you've ever been to Lake Superior, you would never know it was a lake rather than an ocean sitting on its coast.

How serendipitous it was to be delivered to Elizabeth’s doorstep... a little too coincidental, if you ask me, however necessary for the tale to be told I suppose. Initially Morgan just wants to finish up her punishment but a familiar sight draws her close with Elizabeth. The natural world, the lakes and boating and the theme of isolation gave the reader a rich experience.

Soon Morgan is helping Elizabeth revisit her past as being almost completely blind Elizabeth can not read her dad's journals.


Since then she has been living in foster homes and has created a hard exterior to keep others at bay.
