The costumes and the period seem convincingly portrayed, the acting sure-footed and Ms Eve, especially, does an excellent job. But after her home is attacked and baby son is kidnapped, she decides to track him down, joining a ragtag bunch of misfits and ex-convicts to travel to the rough mining community of Gold Town, where she believes her son has been taken. Ultimately you'll leave the theatre feeling that plenty more should have been made of its promising set-up. I was very pleasantly surprised. The Stolen does have the look of a high-class revenge movie, just one that's sadly let down by predictable plotting and overwrought and off-kilter final act.

No surprise the film has only taken in $27,741 so far. Charlotte Lockton has settled in New Zealand with her wealthy husband, David in 1860. Go in with little to no expectations and it's quite enjoyable, just don't hold a candle to any of the details. The miners and 'ho's much too clean. Wow!

While the costumes and sets are great, especially the detail of the female costumes, the poor faithfulness to the reality of New Zealand's Indigenous People is far too whitewashed. And double Wow! There could be quite a few exciting and interesting films set in NZ during this time period and earlier but they don't seem to be getting made and this TV movie with it's complete lack of reality does not cut it.
