I had a copy of this movie long ago and lend it to someone and it was never returned. However, they cannot run from themselves.

She is known for the use of dolls and puppetry in interdisciplinary work. No plot, little character development. Our payment security system encrypts your information during transmission. Though most Peazants were born in the Americas, their African heritage is forever evident. This movie is a tremendous resource for exploring African-American spirituality and community bonds. For students of several genres of academic inquiry it should required viewing. The images, language, and music of Daughters of the Dustwill linger in the minds of its fortunate viewers forever. It was nice to have seen such a movie produced and directed by the prospective of African Americas for a change. If you were looking for a film as simple and linear as a Hollywood so-called classic, do not bother with this movie. Without this explanatory foreword, many viewers would probably find the film hard to understand. It is indeed a shame that films like this are not more appreciated in our society, and that films like Independence Day and Lethal Weapon II are so "popular". We also see connections between African-Americans and Native Americans.

Because so few films talk about the subject of what happened to black families after Reconstruction, from the family perspective, this film has to be seen. Taking place in 1902, just fifty years after the end of slavery, Daughter of the Dust explores the Peazant's struggle for survival and escape from poverty. Eli, Eula's husband, represents the strength and future of the Peazant clan. As the family prepares to leave, in search of a new life and better future, the film reveals the richness of the Gullah heritage. I also got the sense that this film was conveying the belief that more "simple" spirituality is truer than manufactured spirituality, a la formalized religion. Sadly, few are able to accept these gifts or comprehend their importance.

Eula, who gives a heart- wrenching soliloquy at the end of the movie, bears the burden of pregnancy and rape by a white man. An equally strong script, well acted by the cast, gives the movie a depth and meaning that makes the film worth watching over and over. There was something here but I could put my hand on it. This is a surpassingly beautiful movie - as lovely, atmospheric, dreamy, and textured as any Terrence Malick film, and told as much in terms of *setting* as any of them; with the difference that the characters here are not socially or spiritually adrift. A world-class tale so old, told in a time and place so unfamiliar, and with a mastery so rare, you will feast on it Conversely, this is an American history lesson with African origins. The film is fantastic and inspired me to make a pilgrimage, with friends to the Gullah Islands. She knows slavery and she knows freedom.
